GELANG PATAH – Ammer Aiman Mohd. Fauzi, 17, solidified his status as one of the most promising young golfers by being crowned Overall Male Champion in the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) International Junior Golf Open.
Having initially been passionate about football, Ammer transitioned to golf at the age of 12 after realizing his true talent lay in the sport.
According to Ammer, his success in golf did not come easily, but with dedication and continuous effort, he has managed to win around 10 tournaments since he embarked on his golfing journey.
“Before this, I was more active in football like most of my friends. But after giving golf a try, I realized this is where my real potential lies.
Alhamdulillah, I’ve found success in numerous tournaments, and it has given me the confidence to push forward,” said Ammer, who aspires to secure a university scholarship through his golfing achievements and one day represent Malaysia as a professional golfer.

In the Female Category, Bae Eun Kyung, 16, from South Korea, also stood out by clinching the title of Overall Female Champion.
Having relocated to Malaysia with her family just over a year ago, Bae shared how her interest in golf grew after moving to the country with her parents.
Previously active in Taekwondo while living in South Korea, Bae discovered her passion for golf in Malaysia and began competing in tournaments almost every month.
“I never thought I’d fall in love with golf. At first, I played just to pass the time, but gradually I found myself enjoying every moment on the golf course.
This victory has fueled my motivation to keep progressing and pursue a professional career in golf,” explained Bae, who has her sights set on building an international career in the sport.
The tournament, which ran for four days starting 2 October 2024, was part of the Johor Golf Expo 2024 (JGE 2024). It featured 60 young golfers from Malaysia and abroad, aged between 9 and 18, who showcased their skills at the highest level. The participants of this prestigious event represented the National Junior Development Program (NJDP) and the Johor Development Program (JDP), both pivotal in nurturing the next generation of professional golfers.
The tournament is also recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), offering exclusive opportunities for winners to play alongside professional golfers. This unique experience is designed to help young players gain firsthand insight into the world of professional golf, while simultaneously honing their skills and gaining valuable experience on the course.
The MGA International Junior Golf Open was organised by Champions Golf in collaboration with Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn. Bhd. (KPRJ) through its subsidiary, KPRJ Sports Sdn. Bhd.
This event showcased the remarkable talents of young golfers, who have the potential to make their mark in the professional golf scene soon.
